Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer hosted his Fifth Annual Trailblazers Award Ceremony in honor of Black History Month. The event celebrates African American and Caribbean American New Yorkers who are leaders in their communities. Tonight’s event was co-sponsored by The Gospel Uptown and hosted at the GU Harlem restaurant and performance space.

Recent statistics from the Department of Labor show that unemployment in New York State is at a 26-year high, hovering at 9 percent. In New York City, the unemployment rate is even higher, at 10.6 percent.

Manhattan Borough President Scott M. Stringer delivered his 2010 State of the Borough Address on February 4, 2010 in the Council Chambers at City Hall. The Borough President was introduced by William J. Bratton, Former Chief Executive of the Los Angeles Police Department and New York Police Department. The evening also included a performance by Vy Higginsen’s Gospel for Teens Choir and welcoming remarks by Lillian Rodríguez López, President of the Hispanic Federation.
Borough President Stringer asked the public to submit questions on this blog about his speech. The public’s input was very positive and due to the large number of questions we received, a selected set of responses on matters his office has direct jurisdiction on, was prepared and published below.

Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer joined USCIS New York District Director Andrea Quarantillo and New York Historical Society President and CEO Louise Mirrer today to welcome 100 new citizens at a naturalization ceremony held at the New York Historical Society in commemoration of President’s Day.

Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer spoke at the Turtle Bay Association’s 26th Annual Love Thy Neighbor Valentine Party. The three course dinner was hosted at the Fabio Piccolo Fiore Restaurant on East 44th Street.
