If you’re looking for work, you’re not alone.

Recent statistics from the Department of Labor show that unemployment in New York State is at a 26-year high, hovering at 9 percent. In New York City, the unemployment rate is even higher, at 10.6 percent.

It may seem like no one is hiring but, in fact, the Census Bureau is actively looking for employees to canvas eighteen neighborhoods throughout Manhattan.

In response to an increasing global interest in food sustainability, and to the lack of all-inclusive, tangible, local governmental initiatives in the field, Manhattan Borough President Scott M. Stringer has released “FoodNYC: A Blueprint for a Sustainable Food System.” The first of its kind, it serves as the most comprehensive effort to unify and reform New York City’s policies regarding the production, distribution, consumption, and disposal of food.

Manhattan Borough President Scott M. Stringer delivered his 2010 State of the Borough Address on February 4, 2010 in the Council Chambers at City Hall. The Borough President was introduced by William J. Bratton, Former Chief Executive of the Los Angeles Police Department and New York Police Department. The evening also included a performance by Vy Higginsen’s Gospel for Teens Choir and welcoming remarks by Lillian Rodríguez López, President of the Hispanic Federation.

Borough President Stringer asked the public to submit questions on this blog about his speech. The public’s input was very positive and due to the large number of questions we received, a selected set of responses on matters his office has direct jurisdiction on, was prepared and published below.
